Hockey weekend

Tonight my oldest scored his first game-winning goal!! Ever! It is actually his first goal of the season, he has played defense all year-and they have only won a handful of games so far. Anyway, it was an awesome game, the kids played terrific. As a whole, this group of kids is pretty laid back, it takes a lot to get them going. Tonight the refereeing was horribly one sided for the other team, and that was enough to light a fire in these kids. Made for a fun and exciting hockey game.
Last night his team had the parent vs. the kids hockey game and bbq. It was a lot of fun, tons of parents got out and played, good night all 'round. We have wonderful parents on this team and it is wonderful to get out a socialize a bit with them. Of course the kids won the big game and bragging rights. They rode the parents pretty hard after, lol.
My 3 yr old tried skating for the first time last night. We found him some little bob skates the other week, because his feet are so tiny we couldn't find any skates to fit him. He did not like it. His Dad held him and let him scoot a bit, and he fell on his bum a few times. He came off with me and told me, "I don't like to skate, Dad had to help me, I don't know how to skate. And I hurt my bum." He hated that he wasn't just good at it, he didn't want to have to learn how, just figured he would be able to do it. LOL We had a little chat and he wants to try again, so that is good. I think it is so funny that he is so much like his perfectionist Mom. I hate not being good at something, right away. Makes me not want to do it. I work really hard as a grown-up to fight that tendency, but obviously I am not doing a good enough job, since he is picking that up. Guess I have some work to do.
We have had a pretty great weekend with the kids so far, looking forward to heading to the science centre tomorrow, and maybe going to the outdoor rink for a bit.

  1. Sound like an awesome time. I am the same way, if I don't get something right away, I tend to not really want to do it. That's great that you are trying to work on that for you kids sake!

  2. sounds like you have a great bunch there, Kristen. My daughter got her first goal of the season a few weeks back, and she was soooo excited! I know exactly how you are feeling as a parent; so proud! It's a bonus to have great parents on the team, not screaming morons that we hear about so much these days. Thanks for sharing!
