Life Swap?

I think I forgot to tell you all a funny thing that happened to me this summer. I got an email, supposedly from the show Wife-Swap, telling me that they had read my blog and thought our family would be great for their show. When I opened that, I laughed out loud and said, "Well, I guess that confirms it, we are freaks!" I haven't actually watched the show, but I would imagine if someone thinks we are fascinating enough for tv, they must think we are a bit out of the ordinary. 5 kids, homeschooling, in the middle of renos... craziness to be sure, interesting? I don't know. But hubby and I thought it was hysterical.

Anyway, the other day at dinner it was very loud. All the kids were acting nutty, I am sure it must have been a full moon or something. Or they were all coming down from a 3 day Halloween sugar high. In the midst of this craziness, I turned to my hubby with a somewhat helpless smile,
"Remember when Wife Swap sent me that email? At this moment I might just say yes. Yikes!"

Later when I thought a bit about it, I thought they would swap me with a woman with an opposite lifestyle to mine. So maybe I could go to the gym, have a massage and a manicure, lunch with friends, hmmm... not so bad...

Then I went to kiss my babies goodnight. I sang them lullabies and got 27 kisses from my Monkey boy and 10 hugs from Girly. My 11 and 14 year old boys kissed me goodnight and wanted me to sing to them as well. Still! Then I crawled into bed with arms around my teensy sweetheart and in the arms of my big sweetheart and thought how there was no where else I would rather be. I am so blessed.

  3. That's hilarious! I'd love to watch that episode...but I agree, you are blessed. That kind of reminds me of a conversation I had with another mom at Regan's ballet class. I was complaining that I was tired, and she was horrified to hear that I spend half the night sleeping with Sam. She went on and on about how she has never let her children in her bed, she puts them in their rooms at 8:00 and turns off the lights and closes their doors. Period. When they're sick, she cleans them up and puts them back to bed. Alone. She was so proud of herself and so disdainful of me. I didn't tell her, but I pitied her and all of the precious moments she'd let go by. I'll sleep through the night again someday, and I'll do it with the memories of warm little bodies pressing themselves into my arms. little hands stroking my cheeks and murmuring "mama...", silly whispered conversations held in the dark before falling asleep. Blessings, every one.

  4. Funny stuff! But, as much as our kids drive me crazy, I wouldn't trade them for the world.

  6. We always think the grass is greener on the other side, but we tend to forget about how much time and care we have taken to fertilize our own grass. I like watching that show....

  7. I'm laughing too!
I can't imagine trading my life although sometimes I'm tempted too.
I'm not a huge fan of that show. it always seems like someone gets set up to be the bad or crazy wife/family. It seems a bit unfair. I wonder which wife they wanted you to be? lol

Love the sweet warm babies in my bed too. I still have a growing every day girly that crawls into bed with me.
The girls and I are reading "The Little Princess" at night all in bed together and I wouldn't trade it for all the massages and pedicures in the world!
    Great post!

  14. No, they'll swap you with some tattoo-plastered, nose-ring wearing biker mama whose kids have no rules, curfews, and have roaches all over their house. NIGHTMARE!!
